Good point. I was about a year away from my own junglism implosion when I wrote that...my wife also reminded that we DID meet Gil again, here in SF toward the end of the 90s. Ariane was with him and she was nice to us this time! (BTW, I really sense an affinity in writing styles and approach when I read your excellent Substack--can it be as simple as a "generational sensibility"?

I think that may be the most important feature of Goa trance culture: the tight linking with the diurnal cycle and the emphasis on the dawn. I think it helps explain the sometimes darkness of the nighttime vibe as well! A set-up...

Thanks for sharing. I was there for a few seasons several years later 2000 to 2004. I spent more time up in the quieter Arambol than Anjuna, but used to head down for a party or two.

You are completely right that the best bit is when the sun starts to come up. We used to sleep a few hours and then try to arrive at about 4am to have an hour or two of the darkness and let the acid fully kick in by the time the sun started to rise.....
