Dr. Davis, I was imagining you would connect via light telegraphy to Pynchon’s “lives of the saints” style history of a light bulb at the end of Gravity’s Rainbow. Did you decide that Pynchon’s account was not sufficiently concerned with the revelatory to be thematic?

Ha! I knew it. I had a couple sentences devoted to Byron the Bulb but excised them for no particularly good reason other than striving to not make my posts as long to read or write. There is so much in that episode, it wouldnt have been a mere mention, but an even darker ironizing of the illumination theme, since with Byron it is also tied to the "grid of control."

Clearly I need to write that Pynchon post! I might do one on the shadowy and by no means liberatory role that LSD plays in GR, but its really a whole huge essay so...

Great news! I wouldnt have normally looked there. There is a great collection of underground newspapers at Independent Voices but next time I will check the good ole Internet Archive!
